Center 7 Spotlight

Southwestern Michigan
(Counties of Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, Kalamazoo,
Calhoun, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph and Branch)

Hey Center 7!

Welcome back to another year of school! We have a whole year ahead of us filled with many activities so don't forget to always check back to the Association website to find out what is going on in your area!

The first big events coming up are the Fall Training Institutes. The nearest one to the schools in center 7 will be hosted at my home school at Galesburg-Augusta High School in Galesburg on November 6th. Fall Training Institutes are geared toward beginning chapter members and new members to student councils throughout Michigan. The day is jam-packed with events and fun opportunities to learn and make your chapter/council the best it can be!

After the fall season winds down we begin hosting Regionals. Here students from all across the state will have the opportunity to make there very own presentation and compete for the opportunity to present at the State Conference! This is the opportunity of a lifetime! Regionals have a lot of energy with a ton of people and are geared toward leadership idea sharing. If you have not been able to make it to a Regional yet, make sure that you do this year! The dates and location of these conferences are almost all available - always check the calendar for the most up-to-date information.

Finally, State Conference! To those that have been I need not explain how much fun States is! For those who have not yet attended there is only one word...Wow! Every year student councils and honor societies from all over the state come together for one weekend in March to completely endulge themselves in leadership! The lessons you learn at States about leadership and teamwork are lessons that you will keep for the rest of your life! As a StuCo./NHS member, we already know that you have some drive to be a leader. However, as Vince Lombardi believes "Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile." At states, you will truely learn what it takes to be a leader and what kinds of things you must do to become the best that you can be!

I hope that you all have a great school year! Make sure to return to this page frequently so you can see updates about Center 7! If you have any questions/coments, please feel free to e-mail me at SimR33@comcast.net!

In Leadership,
Ryan V. Simpson
