Hello Michigan Student Council Representatives and Advisors!

My name is Ryan Thomas and I am a Middle Level Representative on the MASC/MAHS Board of Delegates.  I am in the 8th grade at Menominee Junior High School and this is my first year on the board.

I was so excited to be elected - it is such an honor!  The State Board is such a wonderful organization.  MASC/MAHS promotes positive leadership skills throughout the state.

MASC/MAHS Board of Delegates hosts a Charity of the Year (every year).  This year’s charity is “Alternatives in Motion”, to help the handicapped get wheelchairs.  We also host Regional Conferences all over Michigan. These conferences are great ways to get students involved with their schools and to learn more about leadership.  I went to the Regional Conference hosted at Northern Michigan University last year, and I learned so much more about being a leader.  At these conferences you not only learn a lot, but you have loads of fun doing it! Our Fall Training Conferences will be held throughout Michigan on various dates. Check our Event Calendar on our website for the best date and location for your group.  The Upper Peninsula Fall Training Conference will be held at Bay College in Escanaba on Tuesday, October 23rd.

This summer, July 15-18, I attended the MASC/MAHS Summer Leadership Camp at Albion College.  We stayed at the college dormitories and attended different varieties of leadership activities throughout the campus.  It was a fantastic experience!  These camps are great experiences and you learn so much about yourself as a leader.  The Senior and Junior Counselors are wonderful people and great leaders!  I would strongly recommend this camp to anyone who has the opportunity to attend!  It is a fun filled learning experience.

We have a website where you can access information about upcoming events and a Hall of Ideas, where you can get some great ideas for school events.  Our website presents more information about topics, such as our Charity of the Year.  Make sure you take full advantage of our website.

I hope you all have a great 2007/2008 school year and please, get involved with your student council.

If there is anything I can help you with, please contact me.

In Leadership,

Ryan Thomas
