Meetings / Conferences Sign Ups: The first thing we do is make sure all those on the designated committee are signed up to work one of our four sessions at conferences. We have created a worksheet that helps us do that easily. It includes the following stations: greeters, guides, encouragement table workers, school store, baked goods table, and any other special assignments we came up with. T-shirts/Nametags: All members working must wear their Student Council t-shirts. Students also will wear nametags so that parents and teachers know which students are there to help. Our officers who work as aides during school make these up ahead of time so the nametags are ready. Greeters/Guides: The greeters must greet all parents as they arrive with energy and excitement. We think this gives people a good feeling when they first come in the door to our school. Our principal usually has some type of items to hand out to all people who attend, so greeters also pass those items out. The guides’ purpose is to take parents to the correct rooms and show them where to go. Encouragement Table: Two members from our council are selected to work at one of our two encouragement tables. Parents may write a note to their child expressing how proud they are of their child and their accomplishments. Student Council delivers them during school the next day after conferences. Students like getting it; it’s like receiving mail, but IN school. School store/Spirit wear: Some students work at our school store where parents or students can purchase various supplies. This is a great opportunity to take orders for new spirit wear. We worked with a local printing company so that we do not over purchase items and loose money. Taking pre-orders is a great way to avoid that problem. Baked Goods: Each student assigned to work during that conference session must also bring in a dozen baked goods. These will be sold and the profit will go to our Student Council. It is an easy way to make some extra money. This is pure profit because all items are donated by Student Council Members. Raffle: Our newest idea was to hold a raffle at a table where parents, staff and students could purchase tickets. The officers divided up a list of local businesses that we wanted to donate goods or gift certificates. We called them and also had a letter drawn up by our adviser. Many places where happy to participate. We sold raffle tickets individually or by the arms length and people could put the raffle ticket in the exact box they wanted to be in the drawing for. Each item had its own separate box. This was again pure profit because all items were donated and it was very successful. |
