Senior Counselor Information
MASC/MAHS Summer Leadership Camps

Our Summer Leadership Camps provide students in middle and high school the opportunity to engage in experiences that help to build their leadership skills. We utilize educators from all over Michigan as "Senior Counselors." Advisers that send their students to our camps are NOT required to attend with their students, however, some do choose to attend and work our camp as Senior Counselors.

The curriculum for our Summer Leadership Camps is very detailed and provided to staff well in advance. Staff members typically attend 1-2 pre-camp meetings in May/June (most meetings are on weekends, unless otherwise decided by the group). At these meetings, the structure and programming of our leadership camps are relayed, debriefing instructions are provided and the staff has an opportunity to meet each other.

Throughout camp, Senior Counselors are paired with Junior Counselors (At the Middle Level Camp, these students are in their last two years of high school or entering their first year of college.  At the High School Camp, the Junior Counselors are all in college, or just entering college.)  Each Senior Counselor/Junior Counselor “team” picks a color for their group. Each group consists of 15-20 students depending on camp, level and registration numbers. Our staff members work with the students closely on leadership lessons, projects, team building and debriefing.

All staff is required to arrive at camp early! Our Middle School Camp runs Sunday through Wednesday; staff arrives Saturday morning, 1 day before camp begins. The High School Camp runs Sunday through Friday; staff arrives Friday morning, 2 days before camp begins.
